Origins & Characteristics
The Bumblebee Millipede, named for it’s yellow and black bands, is one of many species of millipede in the world. It is native to the Caribbean but has also been introduced to the southeastern parts of the United States. They can grow anywhere from 2.5cm to 10cm in length and they have a lifespan of up to 10 years.
They mainly live among leaf litter and feed on rotting wood.
All About Jim, George & Stitch
We have 3 bumblebee millipedes which we purchased for the farm to add to our invertebrate collection. They grow very slowly so still have a few more years before they reach a fully grown length of 10cm. They often like to curl up and hide in the corners of their enclosure.”
